Our Men’s First Team were joined by some very special guests for the 5-1 cup win against Silhill FC last Saturday; the U8 Cougars side were the matchday mascots!
The Cougars are in their second season under the Knowle banner, but many had not been to one of the adult fixtures before. Coaches Reece and Martin bought them down to the club on Saturday afternoon, looking smart in their new CP Barbers sponsored kit. The boys had the chance to tour round the ground and see the changing rooms, meet the First Team players, do a warm up on the pitch, walk out with the team and take some photos with them. During they game they sat and watched the action with a couple of club Legends (hello Uncle Farney!) and then took part in a penalty shootout at half time against substitute keeper Oscar, plus enjoy a drink and a snack in the clubhouse! After the game some of the kids also got their programmes signed by the players also.
Cougars Manager Reece told us after the game “It was a brilliant day and great for the kids! My lads really enjoyed it”. Chairman Darryl Saunders agreed; “It was awesome to see the young lads enjoying the game and bringing along their family members, plus the First Team players also enjoyed meeting them too and hearing about their football. We want to do more of this throughout the season, so if teams are interested then get in touch.” The Cougars also wanted to pass on their thanks to all involved with the Men’s First Team for treating the kids so well, Reece was full of praise for the amount of time the players gave to the youngsters.
Big thanks to everyone who helped organise this, including Reece, Martin, Rusty, Farney and Darryl. Next home game, it’s the U7 Sabres coming down to act as mascots, so look out for that one!
